When DivorceCompass approached us, their vision was clear:
Create a brand identity that gently guides people through the emotional, practical, and psychological maze of separation and divorce — without judgement, without pressure, and without blame.
Their clients come to them feeling overwhelmed, heartbroken, confused or simply unsure of what comes next. The brand identity needed to hold all of that, while also pointing toward stability, hope, clarity, and new beginnings.
The Compass: A Universal Guide for a Challenging Journey
We chose the compass as the foundation of the identity for several key strategic reasons:
1. The Compass Doesn’t Look Back — Only Forward
It does not judge where someone has been, why they arrived here, or how long the journey has been. It simply says:
“You are here. Let’s find the direction forward.”
2. A Steady, Constant Guide Through Unsteady Seasons
Whether someone feels lost, overwhelmed, or unsure, a compass is a tool that remains steady even when everything else feels unstable.
3. Universally Understood
Across all cultures, ages, and languages, a compass symbolises guidance, clarity, and direction — exactly the heart of the DivorceCompass mission.
4. True North — Realigning Heart, Spirit, and Mind
Healing requires finding “True North” again — regaining internal orientation and rebuilding identity.
5. The Full 360° Spectrum
The circular layout, naming emotional and practical topics, reflects the full picture of separation and divorce. DivorceCompass supports every angle, every layer, every step.
6. Adaptive Guidance
Just as a compass recalibrates when direction shifts, DivorceCompass helps clients adjust, find a corrected path, and continue toward healing — even after missteps.
7. Portable — You Carry Your Healing Forward
The compass is symbolic of a tool you carry with you. DivorceCompass equips clients with skills, tools, and insight they can use anywhere, anytime.
The Faceted Heart: Honouring the Complexity of Human Emotion
The heart design carries intentional depth:
1. Many Angles, Many Experiences
The faceted shapes represent the different parts of a person’s emotional world — identity, attachment, rejection, grief, fear, hope to name a few.
2. Different Aspects Come Into Play at Different Times
Clients often cycle through anger, grief, loneliness, anxiety, guilt, or confusion. The heart reflects this emotional multiplicity.
3. Acknowledging Wounds & Restoring Wholeness
The structured shapes symbolise the process of rebuilding — one piece at a time, stronger than before.
4. The Heart as the Engine
Just as the heart drives the body, our sense of worth drives our emotional wellness. Separation and divorce wound that core. DivorceCompass helps rebuild it with dignity and compassion.
The Green Growth: Renewal Rooted in Healing
The delicate sprig growing from the compass represents:
1. New Life After Loss
Growth emerging from pain, guided by the right support.
2. Value and Self-Worth
Healthy growth comes from a restored sense of value — both self-value and value for others.
3. Forward Momentum
Growth is movement. DivorceCompass supports that movement from hurt toward resilience.
4. Hope for the Future
The green tones represent renewal, possibility, and emotional grounding.
5. Deliberately Scruffy Rendering
Healing, hope and growth doesn’t always feel neat and tidy. Hence, the deliberate scruffy rendering of the sprig to symbolise green growth.
The Unified Symbol
Together, the compass, heart, and growth form a visual identity that communicates:
- clarity
- guidance
- emotional depth
- safety
- renewal
- confidence
- hope
Context
The identification of the elements that make up the context of the separation and divorce experience, the context that DivorceCompass provides guiding assistance in, and the areas/aspects of life that are targeted for guidance to healing are arranged as a 360 degree encirclement, for a way to be found through, as well as labelling of the cross-bar of the compass.
Colouration
1. Background
The green background colouration helps capture softness, lightness, transition and calmness, transitioning through the fade from darkness to a lighter tone. Recognising the past, the present and gently guiding to a more nourished and healthier future.
2. Unified Symbol
The unified symbol colouration encompasses:
- varying emotions and experiences from the fiery hot orange to the clinically cold ice-blue, strong emotions, hard emotions, to temporary indifference and apathy, even possible weakness and hurt;
- clarity, trustworthiness, stability, consistency – colour based message reinforcement right in the place you would hope to receive them – the compass;
- honesty, a forthrightness associated with white used in identifying and listing all the aspects touched by separation and divorce.
In summary. A brand that doesn’t just look good — it means something to the people who need it most.
